Hello! This is a website created by Ross Forrest as part of his honours project in 2010.

If you are looking for his portfolio site, please go to http://www.zoomnetwork.co.uk/portfolio.

This will soon change to www.rossforrest.co.uk but it takes a few days for the new hosting and nameservers to clear!

Thanks,

Ross.

Welcome to Interactive Media Design Degree Show 2010

Feel free to visit the browse page to explore the image gallery.

Zoom is an automotive photography and enthusiast network with a focus on connecting people who have a passion for modified Japanese cars. Using conventions similar to that of existing social networks, users upload and tag photographs of their cars, collaborating to create a gallery that features high quality images of tastefully modified cars and celebrates what many consider an art-form. The project challenges preconceptions of what a website is and explores a different way of navigating through a database of images - users can move from broad categories, for example red cars right down to specific models in a particular colour with a certain set of modifications.

Opening up

I've opened up account creation so anyone who wants to get involved can make an account. I'm still running the search engine off my laptop but ill hopefully have a dedicated server sorted soon.

At the moment I'm looking for people to add comments to existing images to help identify mods on the cars, and also to upload and tag images of their own! Again, feel free to give feedback and report any problems you come across on the development forum.

Thanks again,

Ross.

More Testing!

After a fair amount of alpha testing by friends (thanks everyone) I'm confident that the site is ready for the next stage of testing: closed beta!

Basically if you want to get involved, send an email via the contact page and I'll sort out an account for you as soon as possible. I've uploaded and vaguely tagged a lot of the images that people gave me permission to use back in January, and I have credited the photographers accordingly - if there are any mistakes or you can identify any of the mods on the car make sure to leave a comment.

Other than that, start uploading and tagging your own photographs and with any luck the site will work as it should. If you come across any problems, you can add a bug report on the development forum and feel free to leave any feedback there too.

Please note: I'm still running the search engine from my laptop, so you might find that you get an error when trying to access the browse page. I will try to keep the browse page running as much as possible during the day, but i tend to sleep at night (as most people do).

Thanks

Ross.

Welcome and Testing

First of all welcome to Zoom Network - feel free to check out the about section for some information on what this is all about!

At this point we are just starting an alpha testing phase to quickly sort out some of the major issues that will be cropping up over the next week or so. We will be progressing onto a closed beta stage in the near future so if you are interested in participating send an email to rssfrrst@zoomnetwork.co.uk and I will get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime have a look at the browse section to see what we are up to.

Alpha testers: Upload photos, tag, vote and browse... Feel free to try and break things too - I can almost guarantee you'll succeed at this point. If you do have any problems or have any feedback/suggestions to give make sure and head over to the development forum and join in the discussion there.
